The 2009-2010 CALA, School of Landscape Architecture T-Shirt Design contest. Time to get creative and submit your idea for this year's T-Shirt. Designs are due by October 23, 2009 by no later than 8:00pm...Any submissions after that date will be added by a vote. Follow the instructions below to submit your design.

Cala's 2009 Halloween Pumpkin Carving
Come join us on October 29 at 5:00pm in the Cala Gardening for the 2009 Pumpkin Carving contest. The winner will receive a FREE Cala T-Shirt. So start thinking of fun and creative ideas for your pumpkin carving. So come out and carve your pumpkin with your friends and family, hang out and talk with your peers, and of course have some Halloween fun!

The Guerilla Gardening movement.

±92: Downtown Master Plans, 1932-2009
Soft Opening: Friday, October 2, 4-7pm
Grand Opening: Saturday, October 3, 6-10pm
Exhibit Hours: October 10, 17 and 24, 6-10pm
McLellan Building , 63 E. Congress (NW corner of Scott Ave. and Congress)
Tucson artists Bill Mackey, Julie Ray, Rachelle Díaz and Kimi Eisele, representing several collectives and entities including Worker, Inc., Pop-Up Spaces and Design Co*op, present “±92: Downtown Master Plans, 1932-2009,” a compilation of over 100 Downtown Tucson master plans, comprehensive plans, studies and projects. The exhibition will include realized and unrealized plans authored from the early 20th century to 2009. An interactive timeline will help viewers track world events, economic and social trends, and Tucson ’s history in relationship to the plans’ origins, realization, or death. This is a rare opportunity to see ALL of the planning for downtown Tucson in one space at one time.
Also included in the exhibition will be 92 images (by photographer Josh Schachter) of spaces and places that make our downtown unique—some of these are a direct result of planning, some of which are not. A crew of official performing “apparatchiks” (i.e. officials in a large organization, usually a political one), will be on site to collect public input for current and future downtown master planning, for which there are no funds, of course. A small booklet entitled “A Guide to the Master Plans of Downtown Tucson” will be available for purchase.

How much: Prices range from $10 to $70 for cacti and succulents, and $6 to $50 for other plants.
Et cetera: Proceeds benefit services for kids and adults with disabilities who work at the nursery.

Where: Lucky Strike Bowling Lanes, 4015 E. Speedway Blvd
Getting There: Bus #4 ($1.25 each way, exact change required)
Time: Depart @ 4:30pm from the Speedway/Olive Underpass stop, Arrive @ 4:40 at the Speedway/Alvernon stop. Return around 6pm
Rates: $4.99/game $2.95 for shoes (I'm looking for coupons)
If you let me know ahead of time that you'd like to come with us, I'll try to pick up a coupon for you.

Bring Your Garden to the Garden Potluck
As the title states. We brought food from our garden to the Cala Garden and had a great potluck. It's was a great time getting a chance to get to know each other better after another week in studio while eating some home grown food.
First Brown Bag of the Fall 2009 with Chris Kiefer
It was a fun summer and especially for Chris Kiefer who was on a mission this summer. This summer he travel through Western Europe and came back and gave us a talk about his travels and findings. It was a good turn out and a great time.

The first event of the year at Brooks house for an all graduate college dinner and get together. It was nice to see new and old faces and get a chance to talk about the summer.
